The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm cordially invites readers and aspiring writers to come hear the story behind The Mantle, an award-winning novel by local columnist, author, and farmer Iris Lee Underwood. What prompted Iris to begin her many-layered love story of forgiveness and restoration? What obstacles did she face, and how did she overcome them to publish the beautiful hardcover book with original full-color art by Rochester resident and award-winning painter, Joyce Harlukowicz?

There’s plenty romance in The Mantle. But the true love story is the one between the author and written word, art, and nature. Learn the Words, Live the Words, Love the Words—words that tell the stories of our lives.
